Langtang-Gosaikunda-Helambu Trek Highlights

Langtang-Gosaikunda Trek is a beautiful fusion of nature, Tamang culture, and snowcapped high mountains. It is one of the closest destinations from Kathmandu to the border of Tibet. The beautiful forests of rhododendron and bamboo, the villages of Shaprubesi, Langtang, and Kyanjin Gompa, the secret lake at Gosaikunda, spectacular mountain scenery, and the hospitality of the Tamang people make this trek one of the most attractive and unique journeys in Nepal. The monastery, prayer flags, and prayer wheels give us an opportunity to witness the spirituality of the Buddist people.
Our trek begins with a bus drive from Kathmandu to Shaprubesi. This ride will give us an opportunity to see the beautiful scenery and observe the local people going about their daily lives. At first, we will trek through the Langtang valley then we follow the path to Gosaikund Lake. As we climb, the types of trees and forest change from subtropical to Alpine. The smiling faces of the people, their friendliness, the scenic beauty of surrounding mountains and landscape, the 360-degree view from Kyangin Ri, and the Holy lake of Gosaikunda makes this trek one of the most interesting and stunning holidays you will have

Accommodation During Trekking
During the trek, we will be staying at local teahouses. These offer accommodation and food served in a dining room which also functions as a social meeting place with other trekkers. All accommodation is on a twin shared basis. A single room is usually available at a little extra cost. The tour guide will arrange the best available accommodation in each village. As we advance to higher and more remote villages it may occasionally be necessary to share a room with more than 2 people. During the treks, most of the bathroom and toilet facilities are shared and the toilet can be either a squat or a western toilet.

Meals During Trekking
In Kathmandu, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food such as Thali and Momo at a traditional Nepalese restaurant. For instance, a Newari restaurant is a special place serving Newari food (the Newari are the indigenous people of the Kathmandu valley). Newari food is famous and unique. During the trek, we will eat traditional Nepalese food as well as more international cuisine (Tibetan, Indian, Italian, and continental). Dinner and breakfast will be taken at the teahouse where we spend the night and lunch at one of the trail teahouses.

On arrival at Tribhuvan airport, a representative of Open Trail Treks will meet you and drive you to your hotel.  After taking a rest you may wish to visit the office of Open Trail which is situated in the Thamel district of Kathmandu. Thamel is the vibrant tourist area of the city and is full of colorful shops selling everything from pashminas to trekking equipment.  The numerous restaurants serve both European and Nepalese cuisine and ATMs are easily accessible.

We will begin our second day with breakfast before starting a guided tour to some of the historical and religious sites of Kathmandu, which are listed as World Heritage Sites. We will visit Kathmandu Darbar Square, Buddhist Stupa (Buddha Nath), and the Hindus secret temple, Pashupatinath. We will end our tour by visiting the Monkey temple – Swayambhunath. In the middle of the tour, we will take you to a very special local restaurant for lunch.

The trek to Ghopte continues descending along the rocky trail through the pine and rhododendron forest.

Overnight at Ghopte.

Total Trekking Time: 6-8 hours

We go downhill through the forest and continue our descent through the dry river bed. We cross the grassland surrounded by the rhododendron forest, and going steadily uphill, we reach Tharepati.
