Mardi Himal Homestay Trek, is an exciting adventure walking away from main villages and off the busy trails. Where route leads you in front of towering peaks of Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish-Tail and Mardi Himal.

Mardi Himal is also known as the Other Sanctuary, due to its closeness to the actual Annapurna Sanctuary. Located a mere distance west from high Mardi Himal and its beautiful View-Point, the highest spot of the adventure. 

Mardi Himal Homestay Trek is a fascinating adventure destination within massive Annapurna Himalayas. The walk leads on a high scenic ridge facing a glorious panorama of snow peaks of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu Himalaya range. 

A great adventure suitable for all types of people and age-group without any worries or problems of high altitude sickness. On this lovely walk, where elevation gains gradually at slow pace, making the trek enjoyable and exciting.

The highest altitude is on reaching Mardi View-Point which is above 4,500 m / 14,850 feet high. The main highlight and goal of this wonderful trek, after walking through beautiful woodland, and then reaching mountain wilderness.

Mardi Himal Homestay Trek, apart from marvellous views of snow peaks, is also a wonderful experience. Exploring remote Gurung villages of Ghalel and Lwang, where visitors are received with traditional welcome greetings.

Day 01:
Arrival in Kathmandu 1,350 m / 4,430 feet and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:
Cultural and Historical sightseeing tour and trek preparation.
Day 03:
Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m-06 hrs.
Day 04:
Drive to Dhampus Phedi 1,560 m and trek to Potana 1,900 m-05 hrs.

What to expect on Mardi Himal Homestay Trek:

Constant views of snow mountain range during most trekking days, walking around lovely hill villages. The high hill village is populated by Gurung people the main hill tribes of the Annapurna region follow Buddhism religion. 
 
After Potana village, the lodges around Mardi Himal are simple and basic with common toilets and bathing. But clean and nice rooms serve good meals as per the food menu served in a nice large warm dining room. Walking away from villages into lovely dense rhododendron and pine forest with eye-catching mountain views.

Best Seasons for Mardi Himal Homestay Trek:

Nepal has four main seasons, spring, summer/monsoon autumn/fall, and winter. The best time for treks and various adventures around the Himalayas as well as Mardi Himal Homestay Trek. Is in spring and autumn/falls, where most days are clear and fine for views and pleasant walks.
 
Springtime when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendron of various species and colours. Makes the hills alive with different flowers in bloom, the Ghorepani area is known as the world’s largest natural garden.
 
Spring begins from March till May, when days are clear most of the days with cloudy late afternoon. Chances of rain or snowfall sometimes, cold in the morning and night time, days are longer with enough sun-light hours.
 
Autumn/fall is another high season for Mardi Himal Homestay Trek.
 Most days are crystal clear for walks and views, but shorter days are due to sunlight hours. Colder morning and nighttime.
 
Interested people can trek in the winter times and also during Christmas and New Year holidays. Higher areas will be very cold in the morning, late afternoon, and nighttime, but clear with shorter days.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu 1,350 m / 4,430 feet and transfer to hotel.

On reaching Kathmandu at Nepal international airport, staff and guide receive you for a short transfer to your hotel. Located in the hub of Kathmandu city around Thamel an exciting place to be. Check into your rooms and join with other members for trek briefing at the hotel meeting place. Our guide will provide short information regarding the trek, local lodges, foods with do’s and don’ts.

Evening enjoys a typical Nepalese dinner with cultural programs from all parts of Nepal, as an introduction to Nepal heritage.

Day 2 : Cultural and Historical sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

Morning after breakfast, our city guide takes you in the heart of Kathmandu for exciting tour. Visit of old palace courtyard around Durbar Square, as well residence of Kumari, the living virgin goddess. Includes various temples of great historical and religious interest, a short drive to Swayambhunath Stupa.

The oldest Buddhist monuments and famous landmark of the country, from here tour of Bouddhanath with world largest dome stupa. Includes tour of holy Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, and then back to hotel, rest of the afternoon free.

As well for trek preparation and individual activities before dinner as per your chosen restaurants.

Day 3 : Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m-06 hrs.

Depart from the hotel for an exciting overland journey to beautiful Pokhara, a drive of more than 6 hours.  Approx. 220 k.m. distance an interesting drive on main highway head towards Nepal Mid-West around Annapurna Himalayan region. Finally ending the drive on reach Pokhara by the serene Phewa Lake, where most good hotels are located.

Day 4 : Drive to Dhampus Phedi 1,560 m and trek to Potana 1,900 m-05 hrs.

Having hearty breakfast, morning a few hour drive beyond Pokhara city to a hill village at Dhampus. But first reaching Phedi, the bottom of a hill, where our walk starts heading uphill. The trail leads into a cool shade of forest and through farm villages and climbs to a high ridge. Where Dhampus is a Gurung village located facing grand panorama of Annapurna Himalaya with Manaslu mountain range.

Includes majestic view of Machhapuchare Himal and an array of snow-clad peaks, from Dhampus, walk on a high ridge. With short up to Potana a nice-looking settlement with several good lodges for trekkers. At Potana for overnight halt facing views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchare Himal.

Day 5 : Trek to Kokar/ Forest camp 2,520 m-05 hrs.

From Potana, walk uphill on stone-paved path for some time and then enter a dense forest. The trek follows on a quiet trail into tree lines to reach Pritam Deurali. Enjoy overlooking views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna range of peaks with towering Machhapuchare Himal, the Fish Tail peak.  

After a refreshing morning stop with fabulous views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas, continue to walk on leaving Deurali. From here leaving the main trail and village are on off the beaten tracks heading into a densely forested path. Covered in rhododendron, oaks and pine trees, after a few hours of gradual up reaching Kokar for overnight stop. Which is also called Forest Camp, a nice small temporary settlement with simple nice lodges.

Day 6 : Trek to Low Camp 2,970 m - 05 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight, morning walk starts to climb into dense forest. As walk progress reaches a small settlement at Low Camp, a nice isolated place having few good lodges for overnight. This place is also called Badal Camp, due to heavy mist and fogs normally hang around this lovely spot amidst the forest surrounding.

Day 7 : Trek to High Camp 3,700 m - 05 hrs.

Today’s walk leads close to one of our major destinations, as morning walk follows a steep path on a high ridge. As tall trees slowly disappear for a smaller bush of rhododendron and juniper. After hours of good climb reaching the High Camp. Scenic and a wide-open place facing grand views of rolling green hills and snow-mountain range.

Day 8 : At High Camp for hike to Mardi Himal View Point 4,500 m.

From High Camp, start early for a long day hike to our first main highlight of the adventure. Start the walk with a slow and steady climb, then reach a lovely open high ridge at Mardi Himal View Point. The best place for a stunning panorama of the surrounding giant peaks of Annapurna Himalayas with majestic Machhapuchare and Mardi Himal. Enjoy the breathtaking views from the highest point of the adventure, and then head back to High Camp for overnight halt.

Day 9 : Trek to Forest Camp- 06 hrs.

An easy downhill back into dense tall tree lines and lush vegetation, on leaving the High Camp. Walk continues downhill then reaching Low Camp and then at Forest Camp for last overnight camp around high hills of Mardi Himal.

Day 10 : Trek to Gurung village at Ghalel 1,230 m-06 hrs.

After a wonderful time around Mardi Himal and on a high scenic ridge. From Forest Camp, our route diverts in an alternative direction, on winding downhill path into dense woods. As walk continues descend till Ghalel, a nice farm village, inhabited by Gurung. The main hill tribes of Annapurna Himalaya region. Overnight in a nice little cottage made as Home-Stay run by village communities.

Day 11 : Trek to Lwang village 1,140 m-05 hrs.

Morning from Ghalel, an easy pleasant walk through farm areas following the Mardi River on winding trail. On walks enjoy views of Machhapuchare Himal the famous Fish-Tail peak with Annapurna Himalaya range of peaks. 

Finally walk ends for the day on reaching Lwang village, another lovely farm village of Gurung tribe. Lwang village also has other few ethnic Hindu tribes Chettries and Brahmin as well. Where Gurung follows Buddhism religion and culture with the ancient cult of Bon also, worships natural spirits. In Lwang village transferred into a nice cottage, another Home-Stay place managed by the villagers. Lwang village with a tea-garden facing view of Annapurna peaks, is an enjoyable place for overnight halt.

Day 12 : Trek to Astam Village at Eco-Lodge-1,030 m-04 hrs.

From Lwang village, after an enjoyable Home Stay with cultural program presented by the village communities. A short uphill climb to a nice plateau on a wide farm field reaching Astam village for an overnight stop. Another beautiful and scenic place to end the last day's walk of the adventure. At Astam transfer into a nice lodge resort, having lovely rooms facing the grand vista of Annapurna Himalayas. Located close to a road-head near Hyanja village, worth a visit in the with leisure afternoon.

Day 13 : Drive to Pokhara- 02 hours, afternoon free at leisure.

Enjoy the morning glorious views of Annapurna Himalaya range. Having hearty breakfast a short hour drive brings you to beautiful Pokhara for last overnight stop. After a marvellous adventure on Mardi Himal the Other Sanctuary Trekking.

While in Pokhara, rest of the day enjoy some free time, Pokhara offers various exciting activities that one can enjoy.

Day 14 : Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel-06 hrs.

Morning departs from the hotel in Pokhara for drive to Kathmandu, reaching by late afternoon and back to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free at leisure for individual activities and shopping for souvenirs.

Day 15 : Depart Kathmandu for international departure.

Last day in Kathmandu and Nepal, as time for your international flight our staff and guide transfer you to the airport. For homeward bound, after a great wonderful adventure and exciting experience on Mardi Himal Homestay Trek.
