On arrival at Tribhuvan airport, a representative of Open Trail Treks will meet you and drive you to your hotel. After taking a rest you may wish to visit the office of Open Trail which is situated in the Thamel district of Kathmandu. Thamel is the vibrant tourist area of the city and is full of colorful shops selling everything from pashminas to trekking equipment. The numerous restaurants serve both European and Nepalese cuisine and ATMs are easily accessible.

We will begin our second day with breakfast before starting a guided tour to some of the historical and religious sites of Kathmandu, which are listed as World Heritage Sites. We will visit Kathmandu Darbar Square, Buddhist Stupa (Buddha Nath), and the Hindus secret temple, Pashupatinath. We will end our tour by visiting the Monkey temple – Swayambhunath. In the middle of the tour, we will take you to a very special local restaurant for lunch.
After we finish the tour we will meet our trekking guide and leader for discussion and preparation for our upcoming days of trekking.

We start our 8-hour bus journey after breakfast. The bus journey will take us to the northern side of Kathmandu through the beautiful green mountain landscapes, villages, rice, corn, and paddy fields. During the journey, there will be comfort stops and the opportunity to buy food
We will have an overnight stop at Shaprubesi.

The first day of our trek begins with breakfast at Shaprubesi. We then cross the suspension bridge and start to follow the Langtang River. The trail climbs steadily uphill through the oak, rhododendron, and bamboo forests. We might be fortunate to see some wildlife in this forest. After an hour or more trekking, we will come across several teahouses where we can stop for lunch and a hot drink. We will have an overnight stay at the Lama hotel.

After breakfast, we start our trek and continue through the oak, rhododendron and bamboo forest. The trail goes uphill to Ghodatabala. From Ghodatabala we walk up to Langtang. Langtang used to be the biggest settlement of this region. The Earthquake which occurred in April 2015 has badly affected this area and buildings are still being rebuilt. An overnight stop at Langtang.

Today we will trek for a short time so that we can acclimatize to the altitude. We will pass through Langtang village and follow the small Langtang River to KyanjinGompa. This whole area is covered by alpine tundra. KyanjinGompa is famous for its cheese factory and the spectacular scenery of the mountains. It is also a holy place.

After breakfast we can climb up to the amazing viewpoints atKyanjinRi (4,800m/15,748ft) and TserkoRi (5000m/15,748ft). These two viewpoints offer a majestic view of the mountains including LangtangLirung, YannsaTsenji, and the whole Langtang range. We will then return to KyanjinGompa for an overnight stay.

Today’s trail is mostly downhill with a spectacular view of the mountains. We are going to follow the same trail that we used previously. We pass through the forest of oak, maple, rhododendron, and bamboo. The trek continues along the right-hand side of the Langtang River. We will spend the night at the Lama Hotel.

We begin our trek downhill to the river through the oak and pine forest. We cross the river and continue our trek through the forest until we reach Pahire. From Pahire the trail starts to climb and after an hour and a half walk, we will arrive at the Thulosyabru village. Overnight at Thuloshabru village.

The trek starts with a steep climb. It passes through the rhododendron and oak forest but as we get to the Dhumsa village, the trail gets less steep. The spectacular view of Mt.Langtang and its ranges keeps rewarding us during this climb. At the end of the walk, we will arrive at Shin Gamba, where there is another famous cheese factory.

The trail climbs through the rhododendron forest to Lauribina. While trekking from Shin Gompa to Lauribina, if we are fortunate enough, we might see Red Pandas, an endangered species. The trek further continues through the Alpine Tundra to the holy Lake Gosaikunda. We can spend some time exploring Gosikundalake. We will have an overnight stay in Gosainkunda.

Today is the most challenging day of our trek. The trail ascends through a rough rocky path and passes alongside three more lakes. The trail climbs further toLaurebinaLa(4,609m/15,121ft). This is the highest point of our trek. Then we pass through Lauribina La and climb down to Phedi. The trek to Ghopte continues descending along the rocky trail through the pine and rhododendron forest.
Overnight at Ghopte.

We go downhill through the forest and continue our descent through the dry river bed. We cross the grassland surrounded by the rhododendron forest, and going steadily uphill, we reach Tharepati. Further downhill trekking leads us to the Melamchi River and then a climb uphill will bring us toMelamchigaonwhere we will finish our trek for today.

We start our trek downhill to the Melamchi River. We will cross the Melamchi River and then start to head uphill passing through a Sherpa settlement. Crossing this settlement, we arrive at Tarkeghyang. This walk gives us magnificent views of the Himalaya. We then continue our walk through some very old villages and reachHelambu, one of the most popular villages in the region.where the biggest monastery in the area is situated. Exploring this monastery with its colorful prayer flags will give us an opportunity to observe the spirituality of the local people.

We begin our day trekking by walking through the forest and passing a waterfall. The trail keeps going through a wide valley. We will pass settlements inhabited by Sherpa people at Parachin and Gangyul. From Gangyul, we trek to Sermathang. We will spend our day here sightseeing around the town which will give us an opportunity to observe the lifestyle and customs of the local people. We can also visit the monastery which is located at the top of the village. Overnight at Sermanthang.

Today is the last day of our trek. We walk down from Sermathang to the Sherpa settlement at MelamchiBazzar. From Melamchi, we will return to Kathmandu by bus. After you get back to Kathmandu you can rest or indulge in some last-minute souvenir shopping or a bit more sightseeing. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner at a local authentic restaurant with unique Nepalese food.

Today we can have breakfast together and reminisce about our journey. A representative from Open Trail will drive you to the airport 3 hours before you fly home.
Yes, you’ll need a TIMS card; Shivapuri National Park permit and Langtang National Park permit. Note: Open Trail Trek provides all the permits and TIMS cards for its visitors. We will also arrange permits and Tim’s card for those visitors who only want to get permits and TIMS cards without having any trek with us.
Langtang valley with Gosaikunda lake Trek is rated as ‘Moderate Trek’. It takes 11 days to finish this trek. Since the trail of the Himalayas is full of ups and sown so it can be challenging for beginners.
You can find many traditional teahouses and standard lodges on the Langtang valley with the Gosaikunda lake trek. The teahouses are facilitated with a private rooms but shared bathrooms. There will be a communal area to have meals and seat next to the fire at cold nights. And the standard lodges are larger than traditional teahouse which provide internet facilities in a rural area but still offers a shared bathroom.
