Overview of Manaslu Tsum valley with Larke pass trek

Trekking is always an adventurous thing to do but going for a trek to the eighth highest in the world is the most daring thing you will ever do in your life. Yeah, you read it right Manaslu is the 8th highest mountain in the world and also it takes At least 18 days or more to complete the trek. This is a trek for those people who love to have different experiences in Nepal but still provide jaw-dropping scenery. While doing the trek in Manaslu Tsum you will explore lush forests and deserted and rocky landscapes. You will be mesmerized by the view of those beauties of nature.

Tsum valley With time Manaslu Circuit Trek is getting more famous. It is used as the complement of Round Annapurna Trek due to the availability of roads to Annapurna Circuit Trek. Manaslu Circuit Trek covers the subtropical Himalayan foothill to arid Trans-Himalayan High Mountain with six different types of landscape. The main highlight of this trek is the attractive scenery of Mt.Manaslu (8163m ), Himalchuli with the Annapurna massif, beautiful villages of Samagau and Samdo, 110 species of birds, 33 different mammals, 11 types of butterflies and 3 species of reptiles, and 19 different types of forest. During this trek, we will get close to two different types of ethnic groups of people. The trek begins from Arughat which is at an altitude of 600 meters and goes up to Larke pass at 5016 meters.

During trekking, we can enjoy the inhabitants of local food and hospitality. Tsum valley, the hidden valley is an unexplored place. It is completely isolated from modern development. This place was opened for tourism only in 2007 by the Government of Nepal. This place is so untouched that much religious and archaeological evidence is still the same as it was a thousand years ago. People still practice the polyandry systems (all the brothers from the family get married to the same girl) and they follow unique cultures and traditions. They have their own dialect as well. Tsum valley people’s main festivals are Lhosar and Sake Dawa Dhacyhang. Tsum valley separates Nepal from Tibet. This valley is surrounded by Buddha Himal, Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal, and Sringi Himal.

Getting to the Trailhead

Compared with other treks Trailhead of Manaslu Trek is one of the closest treks from Kathmandu. But it’s not that closest to the city area makes it less adventurous, still, it is one of the daring 126km (80miles) drives from Kathmandu to Soti Khola. It takes around 6 hours by jeep and 8+ hours by public bus which is not recommended by us for visitors. In monsoon (September) the road becomes more challenging for trekkers because bus or jeep service may stop at that time because of conditions of the road so that you have to walk from Arughat which adds an extra day.

Accommodation and Meals trek

Teahouse which is run by local people is all we get while trekking in the Manaslu region but if you want to spend your nights in tents it will also accept. You will get dinner, lunch, breakfast, and sound sleep all in the teahouse. Most of the teahouses are comfortable they provide you with two single beds, a mattress and a pillow, but bedroom will be unheated so it is better to take sleeping bag to avoid cold. In the teahouse you will not find a private area for meals and relaxing, there will be a common area for meals and relaxing where a fire would be burned at night and it can be a great place to stay warm. Most of the teahouse provides you with a hot shower which is powered by gas and restroom are mostly shared and can be outside of the teahouses. You can’t expect western food in the Manaslu region all you can get here is tasty and authentic food made by local people.

Telephone and Wi-Fi During Trek

Most teahouses have facilities of wifi so you can be still active on your social media and can communicate with each other via wifi. Local telephone rarely works in Manaslu region but you can call via SAT phone which also available in teahouse but it may take a bit of extra money to call foreign country. We recommend our visitors to take the NTC sim card because NTC has better coverage in the Manaslu region than NCELL.
